Mississippi Burning

This movie reflection is the crime with mystery film named “Mississippi Burning”, directed by Allen Parker in 1988 and based on the real-life in 1964, Mississippi, US. In this movie, the main theme is the “Racism” in America’s history.

Africa Americans were brought to the US to be sold into slavery, but now they are the largest single minority group in the US. The White community has indeed a long and dirty history of racist crime. “Racism” is the belief and/or behavior that a certain race is inherently superior or inferior to others in consciously and/or unconsciously. The White community has indeed a long and dirty history of racist crime. “Racism” is the belief and/or behavior that a certain race is inherently superior or inferior to others in consciously and/or unconsciously.

In general, many people have some wrong negative stereotypes on black people, such as, they will be stupid, irresponsible, violent, poor, and/or dirty and so forth.

While the Whites think that they are superior beyond race, the African-Americans (was called as an American Negros in the film) have the racial inferiority even all humans are “equal” regardless of skin. Therefore, in those days, white people think that different individuals should be treated differently according to their race. So, the African-Americans take granted for the attacked physically and emotionally by the Whites. Segregation is the separation of different people based on something like race, religion, or gender. In this film, needless to say, whites and colored would have different schools, different stores, different facilities, different colors as above the picture.

Ethnocentrism also occurs when some people hold their group is better than other groups. Some ethnocentrism is good to get positive culture identity, but too much group pride can result in a negative force like discrimination via violence and segregation.

These are the seven primary emotions human have; anger, disgust, fear, happiness, surprise, sadness, and contempt. There are many variables involved why people get angry, how people get angry or how long will people angry last after experiencing a threatening, hurtful or unexpected situation. On the other hand, anger sometimes can be a good thing when we express our negative feelings can lead to find the solutions. However, in this film, the blacks’ are expressing the fear as anger. But, they are afraid of anger and of expressing their anger.

According to social learning theory states that people can learn by observing the behavior of others and the outcomes of those behaviors. In the film, although the Civil Right’s movements have helped to create an “equal” America, the mentality of superiority over the races that is passed on from generation to generation still remains a major cause of racism. Many African Americans children and adolescents can get the inferiority and negative self-image throughout the differences between whites and colored. For example,

KKK (Ku Klux Klan) is the far-right organization of racist in the US. The purpose of this organization resurrected white domination, targeting blacks by terrorism, murder, violence, lynching, assault, cross burning, and so forth. Thus, the KKK itself already includes the whole meaning of prejudice, discrimination, and racism.

To build a racial harmony and justice in multicultural society, people should learn acceptance and respect for all other people regardless of racial and cultural background.
